Art Event, October 12th, March against Monsanto at Balboa Park.
This is the worldwide event called “March Against Monsanto,” and more than 50 countries held this event at the same day such as America, Japan, Canada, Egypt, Australia, France, Germany, Spain and many other countries. In San Diego, it was held at Balboa Park.
This event is for the permanent boycott of Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) and other harmful agro-chemicals, which are heavily produced by Monsanto company. The founder of this movement,Tami Monroe Canal, started this event for protecting her two daughters because their GMO foods and harmful pesticides would destroy generation’s health, fertility, and longevity.
I agree with their statement because I do not need GMO foods for my life, but by attending this event, I felt that the way of demonstration should be more thoughtful and creative, especially the last part of the event.
The second picture is the last part of the event, and they played pop music and some people danced with them. However, for me, it looked a little bit silly because they sung many pop songs even though this event is supposed to talk about GMO, which is a very serious topic.
Rather than that, it was good experience because I have never directly experienced any demo, so the atmosphere of demo was pretty new and interesting to me.
Now, rich get richer and poor get poorer, and Monsanto is the one taking a big part of that reality. Therefore, I will keep paying attention to the event and see how it goes with the world.
The next event day is May 24th, 2014.
